The Major Powers in the game are those that
are the most powerful actors in the diplomatic
and military scene of 1937-1947. These are the
Big Eight. Players can assume command of one of
these countries (empires) and direct their
resources to gain popularity and try to survive.
It is impossible to assasinate a political leader
of any of the Big Eight.
The Allies are
- Britain:
constitutional democracy with a large
free market economy and a medium sized
population. Huge colonial empire.
Protected by a huge navy, a medium sized
air force, and a small army.
- China:
mixed republican (one-party)/ military
dictatorship with a small free market
economy and a huge population. No
colonies. Protected by a tiny navy, a
tiny air force, and a huge army.
- France:
republican democracy with a medium sized
free market economy and a medium sized
population. Large colonial empire.
Protected by a medium sized navy, a
medium sized air force, and a large army.
- Soviet Union:
republican (one-party) dictatorship with
a large command economy and a large
population. No colonies. Protected by a
small navy, a huge air force, and a huge
army.
- United States:
republican democracy with a huge free
market economy and a large population. No
colonies. Protected by a large navy, a
small air force, and a tiny army.
The Axis
The Axis are the three major powers that are
sometimes called challenger nations, revisionist
states or the have-nots. They are expansionist,
anti-Western and anti-communist. Together they
have formed "an axis of peace," as
Mussolini has called it. But peace in an
Orwellian way...
- Germany:
republican (one-party) dictatorship with
a large mixed free market / command
economy and a medium sized population. No
colonies. Protected by a small navy, a large air force, and a large
army.
- Italy:
monarchic (one-party) dictatorship with a
small mixed free market / command
economy and a medium sized population.
Small colonial empire. Protected by a
medium sized navy, a large air force, and
a large army.
- Japan:
mixed monarchic / military dictatorship
with a medium sized mixed free market /
command economy and a medium sized
population. Medium sized colonial empire.
Protected by a large navy, a medium sized
air force, and a large army.
