- Geography:
situated in Central and Eastern Europe.
Borders the Soviet Union in the east,
Lithuania and Latvia in the North,
Germany in the North and West and
Czecho-Slovakia and
Romania in the South.
- History: Poland was created after
the Great War from areas that were part of
Russia, Austria-Hungary and Germany. In
1920 Polish general Pilsudski scored a
major victory over invading Soviet forces
(commanded by Tukhachevsky) and halted
the spread of Bolshevism in Europe. Pilsudski took
control of the government in May 1926 and effectively
formed a dictatorship.
