Official Name: Greece
- Geography: situated in the
Balkans, bordering Bulgaria, Yugoslavia
and Albania in the North and Turkey
in the East.
- History: Greece obtained part of
what is now Western Turkey with the
Treaty of Sevres, but because of the
nationalist resurgence of Turkey under
its leader Ataturk, the Greek armies were
driven out of Asia Minor. Greece and
Turkey exchanged populations and Greece
had to absorb 1 million refugees. Other
conflicts exist with Italy, which has
annexed the Dodecanese islands and with
Bulgaria which claims part of Northern
Greece (Macedonia).
